We are a family-oriented, owned and operated motel-style resort along the shores of Lake Michigan! Located at the base of the famed Inspiration Point Scenic Lookout on M-22, amidst the trails of the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy, our thirteen lodging units of various sizes and unique designs are the ideal place to relax or seek adventure during your vacation.
Our private beach and large, grassed commons area give children and adults plenty of room to play in a safe environment. Just minutes away the trails of the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy beckon. Baldy Dune Trail offers a sweeping high view of Lake Michigan’s crystal clear water. It’s also the home of rare, protected plant species. Wildflowers along the shady, wooded trails offer the chance to enjoy Nature at her best. The Arcadia Marsh Boardwalk offers a chance to experience one of the few marshes preserved along Lake Michigan. Food trucks, a vintage ice cream shop, and a full menu restaurant in nearby Arcadia provides delightful dining options. Located 15 minutes South of picturesque Frankfort and 30 minutes North of historic Manistee, we are the perfect 'homebase' for your 'Up North' excursions! Whether it's watching sunsets from the deck overlooking Lake Michigan, relaxing on the beach or in our shaded seating areas while the kids play on our lake-themed playground, Sunset Valley Resort is the place to make memories.

Our private beach is the perfect setting for swimming, playing in the sand, watching sunsets, rock hounding, long beach walks, and cozy evening campfires. Beach chairs are provided. The large, shaded deck overlooking the beach offers seating to enjoy the beautiful Sunset Valley sunsets. We stand by our motto, “Never Miss a Sunset at Sunset Valley!”

Your Night, Your Style
When it’s time to settle in for the night, our thirteen uniquely themed and designed rooms come in different sizes and configurations. We offer suite rooms that include a full kitchen, living and dining area, and a separate bedroom. Our studio style rooms feature an open concept with full kitchens, dining areas and bedrooms all in one. Our two person kitchenette suites have a queen sized bed, dining area, and an intimate, cozy atmosphere. Our sleeper rooms include a small microwave and refrigerator. All kitchen suites are stocked with the necessary cooking and serving utensils. Towels and linens are provided. Outside, each room has a picnic table with umbrella, charcoal grill, and chairs. Loungers, rocking chairs, and swings are available near each room in the commons area.

Fun With The Family
Providing a welcoming place for everyone - families, couples, groups and singles - is a tradition at Sunset Valley Resort. Many of our guests return year after year to re-experience the magic and make new memories. The commons area features our large playground, volleyball and badminton equipment, tetherball, a basketball hoop, children’s riding toys, balls and equipment for wiffle ball and kickball, cornhole boards and other yard games. Shady seating areas provide gathering areas to chat, kickback, and enjoy watching the activities. Our covered pavilion with picnic tables is often used for our bigger family groups to dine together or play board games. Our front office has a variety of board games, books from and about the area, puzzles and cards for downtime or rainy days. We provide fire rings and wood for cozy campfires near the lake. Each room has its own picnic table and charcoal grill.
Dog-loving families know that no vacation is complete without their canine pals! We offer dog friendly rooms for an additional charge. Dogs must be leashed unless in the on-site dog run. We provide a complimentary dog blanket and towel for your furry family member. Our lake-themed sandy playground boasts a two-story lighthouse with slide, real boats, sand toys, and a wooden house playset.

An abundance of opportunities for adventure and fun are just minutes away. Miles of well-marked and tended walking and biking trails of the Grand Traverse Regional Conservation allow visitors to soak in the area's unique, natural beauty. Wineries, breweries, distilleries, casinos, and gift shops in nearby Manistee, Frankfort, and Traverse City appeal to our adult guests. Lakeside beach playgrounds in Arcadia, Manistee, and Frankfort keep the kiddos happy and entertained.
We are surrounded by some of the best golf courses in the area, including the famed Arcadia Bluffs (just three miles away). Ranging from a few minutes to an hour’s time there are over 30 golf courses for relaxed or challenging play. See our links page for a list. While you're here, visit the historic studio of Gwen Frostic, a well-known and beloved conservationist, artist, and poet. Her beautiful studio, a natural habitat, features the actual printing presses that make her block print artwork which includes: popular books, stationary, postcards and other beautiful pieces of art. Lighthouse tours are available at Point Betsie Lighthouse. The Frankfort and Elberta Lighthouses have breakwall access. Kayak or canoe waterways or float the Platte River to Lake Michigan. Charter fishing is available in area towns.
If you’re looking for the mysterious, try Gravity Hill! At this local attraction only minutes away, cars seem to roll uphill and defy gravity. It’s free and fun! Explore the bottle house in Kaleva or the Michigan Legacy Art Park, a nonprofit outdoor contemporary sculpture park with walking trails near Thompsonville. Nearby Pierport is the home of ‘Old Faceful’, a natural artesian spring. The Arcadia Historical Preservation Society Museum in Arcadia holds treasures and stories of the history of the Arcadia area. Beloved by many of our guests, the Cherry Hut restaurant serves up delightful varieties of cherry-themed foods. The annual Traverse City Cherry Festival is only 35 minutes to the North.
